The concentrate is produced by ultrafiltration – a process in which liquid whey is pressed through a filter and then dried. In comparison to Designer Whey, we only use the concentrate in Basic Whey Protein. Whey protein concentrate offers excellent bioavailability and is very quickly digestible. The product is also aimed at people who want a simple and practical way to increase their protein intake in their daily lives – without having to compromise on quality.
Short Reminder: Proteins support you in building muscles but also in maintaining them, for example when you are on a diet. They also help you feel full for longer. We recommend that you consume 2 g of protein per kg of body weight daily. You can find more detailed recommendations in our protein spikes article.

Prepare your protein shake and integrate it into your daily routine: Here's how
Protein shakes are a great addition to your diet, but they should never replace a balanced nutrition. It is important that you supply your body with a variety of nutrients through a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, proteins and healthy fats. Here is an example of a meal plan that integrates protein shakes:
- Breakfast: How about an oatmeal porridge for a good start to the day? This will give you carbohydrates and fibre.
- Lunch: Here you should go for a mix of lots of vegetables, protein and healthy fats – bowls and salads are ideal for this!
- Snack: Making a whey protein shake will give you an energy boost to help you through the afternoon low. This will give you renewed energy that will last until dinner.
- Evening meal: There are no limits to your creativity here either. What is important is that you also eat a mixture of vegetables, protein and fat at dinner time.
Should you prepare protein shakes with water or milk?
There is no right or wrong answer here. When preparing protein shakes with water, many athletes complain about the wateriness of the drink, while when prepared with milk, the shake has a convincing creamy consistency. However, preparing it with milk also costs more and contains more calories.
Why protein shakes are useful for your training
If you want to build muscle quickly, increase your macronutrient levels and at the same time shorten your recovery time, a high-quality protein shake is hard to beat – whether it's made from whey or vegan proteins. Research has shown that taking protein supplements as part of a strength training programme can maintain lean body mass and increase strength, so incorporating protein shakes into your diet makes sense if you're looking to build strength, muscle or athleticism.
You can see which products can help you build muscle in our muscle building article.
Increase in muscle mass
Protein shakes are useful for optimally supporting your muscles. Combining protein shakes with strength training can promote muscle growth and improve physical performance and recovery. This is possible because strength training, like an increased intake of high-quality protein, stimulates muscle protein synthesis. Protein shakes provide amino acids that can be easily absorbed by the body. Studies have shown that taking protein shakes increases the level of amino acids in the bloodstream, which in turn triggers a stronger response to muscle synthesis.
Protein shakes for weight loss
Protein shakes for weight loss can also be useful. This is because the most important factor for losing weight, besides physical activity, is achieving a calorie deficit. Protein shakes can help you in this respect, as they can increase the feeling of satiety, making it easier for you to achieve your calorie deficit. However, one product alone will not ensure weight loss!
Several hormones are involved in appetite stimulation and control, including the peptide tyrosine-tyrosine (PYY), glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and ghrelin. Protein intake appears to influence their production. Both PYY and GLP-1 are hunger-reducing hormones, and studies show that a high-protein diet increases the levels of both hormones after a meal. In addition, there is evidence that protein can also lower ghrelin levels – a hormone that stimulates appetite.
Who can benefit from protein shakes?
Protein shakes are useful for anyone who cannot get their daily protein requirement from food. Protein shakes are therefore particularly suitable for people who do particularly intensive training or who have an increased protein requirement due to their life situation.
FAQ Basic Whey Protein
What is the difference to Designer Whey?

Can I only utilise 30g of protein per meal or shake?
No, this is a common myth. The body can utilise more than 30g of protein per meal. The exact amount depends on the person's body weight and metabolism. The body has an amino acid pool so that it can still utilise the proteins ingested through food if there is no immediate need.
From what age can I use protein shakes?
Protein shakes are considered to be like food in terms of their composition. Therefore, as a teenager you should generally be able to use protein shakes. However, our product and consumption recommendations are always based on the average adult. This should be taken into account when determining the dosage.
Can proteins cause blood sugar levels to rise?
Proteins such as Basic Whey Protein or Isoclear can affect blood sugar levels just as much as carbohydrates, especially when consumed in large quantities.
Although proteins themselves do not affect blood sugar levels as much as carbohydrates, they can indirectly contribute to an increase in blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin production. In particular, the amino acid L-leucine stimulates the production of insulin. When proteins are consumed, the body releases insulin to transport the amino acids from the proteins into the cells. This increase in insulin can cause blood sugar levels to rise, even though proteins themselves have no direct effect on blood sugar levels.
It is important to note that the type of protein source and accompanying nutrients can play a role. For example, protein-rich foods such as lean meat, fish, legumes and nuts can cause a slower and more stable release of insulin than highly processed protein-rich foods, which are often combined with carbohydrates and other ingredients.
For people with diabetes or blood sugar problems, it is important to plan their diet with all nutrients, including proteins, in mind and, if necessary, to monitor their blood sugar levels regularly. Therefore, please do not think that protein powders have no effect on blood sugar. This statement is not correct.
