The silica used in our products meets the highest quality standards and poses no risk to the health of consumers or our in-house production staff.
Why do some people think that silicon dioxide is harmful to health?
Unfortunately, there is still a persistent myth that silicon dioxide is harmful to health.
Silicon is an essential trace element and is needed by almost every cell in the body for normal function. In addition to zinc, iron and other trace elements, 1.4g of silicon is ideally present in the body.
Silicon is essential for the health of passive body structures such as bones, hair and nails. Used functionally as an additive, it has the further advantage that it prevents powders from clumping together.
So where does the myth come from?
The myth that silica (SiO2) is a health concern does not stem from silica itself (which is a normal naturally occurring silicon compound) but from nanoparticles that can be formed during the production of silica and can be inhaled. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has stated that excessive exposure to silica could only be a concern if the particle size is less than 100 nm and is classified as a nanoparticle.
Therefore, we have ensured with our external partners and our internal production group that the silica used in our products has a size significantly larger than 100 nm, does not contain nanoparticles and is therefore 100% safe.
