Coenzyme Q10
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an essential component of mitochondrial energy production and serves as both an antioxidant and an energy-transferring molecule. A lack of CoQ10 therefore not only hinders energy production, but also increases oxidative damage.
People with chronic fatigue regularly have deficient levels of CoQ10 throughout the body, as do people with conditions where fatigue is a common symptom, such as fibromyalgia, people who have survived a heart attack or heart failure, and multiple sclerosis.

Selenium deficiency in Germany
The selenium deficiency in Germany is increasing due to climate change. There is hardly any selenium left in the soil and it has therefore been proven that there is hardly any selenium in our food.
The Federal Center for Nutrition (BZfE) pointed this out a few years ago following a study by ETH Zurich. Unfortunately, this has not been reported.
Selenium is essential for thyroid function. Without an optimal supply of selenium, the inactive thyroid hormone T4 cannot be converted into the active T3 and therefore cannot work. The effect of selenium on thyroid function has been scientifically confirmed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
This also applies to people with an underactive thyroid, as they only receive inactive T4 via the medication.
Unfortunately, doctors very often do not take selenium as a nutrient into account and continue to increase the dosage of the thyroid medication L-thyroxine, which only contains the inactive form T4. Instead of increasing the dose of L-thyroxine, it can make sense to optimize the selenium intake in consultation with the doctor treating you.
Also very important for people with Hashimoto's: selenium has been scientifically proven and confirmed by the EFSA to support the protection of thyroid tissue from oxidative damage and the regulation of the immune system.
