Protein power
With our Designer Whey, we have created a Whey protein powder that combines everything: protein content, amino acid profile, but also creaminess, taste and smell.
Let's take a closer look: Our Designer Whey convinces with a Whey protein complex of Whey concentrate and Whey isolate.
The concentrate is produced by ultrafiltration - a process in which liquid Whey is pressed through a filter and then dried. The isolate, on the other hand, is obtained through crossflow microfiltration - a particularly gentle filtering process. The difference therefore lies in the different filtration processes and correspondingly also in the nutrient profile, i.e. in the protein, fat and lactose content. Due to the gentle production and combination, our Designer Whey has a high bioavailability. In addition, we can also ensure that all proteins and amino acids remain intact and that you can optimally supply your body. Speaking of Proteins: One serving (30g) of our Designer Whey provides up to 23g of protein!
Short Reminder: Proteins support you in building muscles but also in maintaining them, e.g. when you are on a diet and also contribute to a longer satiety. We recommend that you consume 2 g of protein per kg of body weight daily. You can find more detailed recommendations in our protein spikes article.
What makes ESN Designer Whey so special?
With Designer Whey, we have redefined the protein shake game: The smell, the consistency and the taste provide an absolute taste (r)evolution.
Thanks to the many varieties, you can look forward to irresistible milkshake taste and lots of variety. Almond Coconut, Cherry Yogurt, Milk Chocolate, Cinnamon Cereal and many more make your daily protein intake easier. We don't add any sugar and instead use harmless sweeteners.
Prepare a protein shake and integrate it into your daily routine: Here's how
While protein shakes are a great addition to your diet, they should never replace a balanced diet. It's important that you provide your body with a variety of nutrients through a balance of fruits, vegetables, proteins and healthy fats. Here is an example of a meal plan that incorporates protein shakes:
- Breakfast: How about an oatmeal porridge for a good start to the day? This will give you carbohydrates and fibre.
- Lunch: Here you should go for a mix of lots of vegetables, protein and healthy fats - bowls and salads are ideal for this!
- Snack: Making a whey protein shake will give you a boost of energy to get you through that afternoon slump. This will give you new energy and keep you going until dinner.
- Dinner: Here too, there are no limits to your creativity. The important thing is that you also eat a mixture of vegetables, protein and fat for dinner.
Do you prepare protein shakes with water or milk?
There is no right or wrong here. When preparing protein shakes with water, many athletes complain about the wateriness of the drink, while preparing them with milk results in a shake that has a convincing creamy consistency. However, preparation with milk also means more costs and calories.
Why protein shakes make sense for your workout
If you want to build muscle fast, increase your macronutrient levels and reduce your recovery time at the same time, it's hard to beat a high-quality protein shake - whether it's made from Whey or vegan proteins. Research has shown that taking protein supplements as part of a strength training programme can maintain lean body mass and increase strength, so including protein shakes in your diet plan makes perfect sense if you want to build strength, muscle or athleticism.
Increase in muscle mass
Protein shakes are useful to support your muscles in the best possible way. Combining protein shakes with strength training can promote muscle growth and improve physical performance and recovery. This is possible because strength training, as well as an increased intake of high-quality protein, stimulates muscle protein synthesis. Protein shakes provide amino acids that can be easily absorbed by the body. Studies have shown that ingesting protein shakes increases amino acid levels in the bloodstream, which in turn triggers a stronger response to muscle synthesis.
Protein shakes for weight loss
Protein shakes for losing weight can also be useful. After all, the most important factor in losing weight, apart from exercise, is achieving a calorie deficit. Protein shakes help you to achieve this in that they can increase the feeling of satiety and thus make it easier for you to reach your calorie deficit. However, one product alone will not make you lose weight!
Several hormones are involved in appetite stimulation and control, including the peptide tyrosine tyrosine (PYY), glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and ghrelin. Protein intake appears to influence their production. Both PYY and GLP-1 are hunger-reducing hormones and studies show that a high-protein diet increases levels of both hormones after a meal. In addition, there is evidence that protein can also lower ghrelin levels - a hormone that stimulates appetite.
For whom are protein shakes useful?
Protein shakes are useful for anyone who cannot cover their daily protein requirements through their diet. Therefore, protein shakes are especially suitable for people who do particularly intensive training or have an increased protein requirement due to their life situation.
FAQ ESN Designer Whey
Are Designer Whey and Iso Whey Protein vegetarian?
Yes, both Designer Whey and Iso Whey Protein are vegetarian. Only whey protein (milk protein) is contained. Unlike collagen proteins, whey proteins are basically vegetarian.
How is ESN Designer Whey produced?
When it comes to the question of how protein powder is produced, it depends on which protein powder we are talking about. For Whey protein powder, for example, whey is treated via microfiltration and drying processes so that in the end the powder is produced as you know it for your shakes and co.
Simply explained, whey protein powder is a by-product of cheese production. Whey protein is originally derived from the milk of cows, which naturally contains two main types of protein, casein and whey, in a ratio of 80 and 20 percent respectively. In the cheese-making process, the milk is heated to kill unwanted bacteria. The rise in temperature causes the milk to split into curds and liquid whey.
After separation, the curd is strained off and the rest is liquid whey. In its original liquid state, whey is a mixture of mainly water with some protein, fat, carbohydrates and lactose. For further whey protein production, the whey is filtered and dried in a multi-stage process.
What is the origin of the whey protein? How are the cows kept?
We purchase our whey from renowned raw material traders, which originate mainly in the German market. The quality is determined by the purity and effectiveness of the product, which is why we have both internal and external raw material analyses carried out. Even if we cannot visit every farmer personally to check the farming methods, our suppliers must also fulfil their obligations to check legal requirements.
What is the PH value of Designer Whey?
Unfortunately, there are no exact analyses of the PH value of Designer Whey. However, as whey is the origin of Designer Whey, the PH value should be between 6 and 7.
Is ESN Designer Whey Protein vegan?

Can I only consume 30g of protein per meal or per shake?
No, this is a widespread myth. The body can indeed utilise more than 30g of protein per meal. The exact value depends on the person's body weight and metabolism. The body has an amino acid pool so that it can still utilise the proteins ingested through food if there is no immediate requirement.
From what age can I use protein shakes?
The composition of protein shakes is similar to that of food. You should therefore generally be able to use protein shakes as a teenager. However, our product and consumption recommendations are always aimed at the average adult. This must be taken into account when determining the dosage.
Can proteins cause blood sugar levels to rise?
Proteins such as a Designer Whey or Isoclear can affect blood sugar levels just as much as carbohydrates, especially when consumed in large quantities.
Although proteins themselves do not affect blood glucose levels as much as carbohydrates, they can indirectly help to increase blood glucose levels by stimulating insulin production. The amino acid L-leucine in particular stimulates the production of insulin. When proteins are consumed, the body releases insulin to transport the amino acids from the proteins into the cells. This increase in insulin can cause blood sugar levels to rise, even though proteins themselves have no direct effect on blood sugar levels.
It is important to note that the type of protein source and the accompanying nutrients can play a role. For example, protein-rich foods such as lean meat, fish, pulses and nuts can cause a slower and more stable release of insulin than highly processed protein-rich foods, which are often combined with carbohydrates and other ingredients.
For people with diabetes or problems with blood sugar levels, it is important to plan their diet taking into account all nutrients, including protein, and to monitor their blood sugar levels regularly if necessary. Therefore, please do not think that protein powders have no effect on blood sugar. This statement is not correct.

The new varieties will be in our range from autumn 2023.
Does the neutral flavour Designer Whey have its own taste?
Neutral whey has its own flavour. However, this flavour is not very strong and is not really noticeable in a prepared product. The flavour is similar to whey or kefir.
How long can I keep a ready-made protein shake with Designer Whey in the fridge?
A Designer Whey protein shake can be kept for 24 hours in the refrigerator prepared with milk or water. The shelf life of the milk is decisive here. In addition, the longer it is kept, the less flavour it may have.
