We are often asked whether you can continue to consume our ESN products if you are planning to have a child, are already pregnant or are breastfeeding. There is no general answer for all products:
Yes, ESN products may generally be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, there are exceptions (products with caffeine or capsule products without sufficient safety data) which we will discuss later.
Important: Food supplements are only ever a supplement to a balanced and healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle.
No calorie deficit during pregnancy
Of course, it makes sense to continue to pay attention to your health, especially during pregnancy and breastfeeding. So feel free to use Designer Flavor Powder and all other light food products, such as Designer Bars, to cut down on sugar. Also pay attention to your daily protein requirements and continue to use Designer Whey Protein, ISOCLEAR or our vegan variants.
Note: We strongly advise you not to go into a calorie deficit during pregnancy and breastfeeding. This means that if you are on a diet, you should pause it as soon as you want to have children. A calorie deficit can have a negative impact on you and your child.
We always recommend a healthy lifestyle and sticking to routines (cutting down on sugar, eating enough protein, 500g of fruit and vegetables a day and getting enough exercise), but not dieting with a calorie deficit during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Which products should I avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
There is no explicit safety data on the following products, so it is not possible to give a general approval. If in doubt, you should avoid the products or consult your doctor before taking them*.
- Solid Joints: unfortunately there is a lack of sufficient safety data.
- Curcumin Liquid Capsules: here, too, there is a lack of sufficient safety data.
- Flexpresso: Flexpresso contains caffeine. The recommendations and statements on caffeine during pregnancy and breastfeeding differ. We are not making a recommendation and simply want to draw your attention to the caffeine content in Flexpresso.
- Pre workout boosters: our boosters such as Crank Energy, Crank, Boostea, Crank Focus and Crank Focus Pro also contain caffeine. The Crank Pump Pro should also be avoided.
- Caffeine Caps: also contain caffeine
- Diet supplements: as you should not be on a diet anyway, you must not take diet-supporting supplements. These include Diet Support Pro and Grizzly Shredz.
- Immunity Support: the plant extracts contained in this supplement have not been sufficiently tested for their effect on pregnant or breastfeeding women.
- Ashwa+: Ashwaghanda should be avoided.
- Melatonin Sleep Spray: opinions are also divided on the subject of melatonin. The official recommendation (NHS = National Health Service) is: please consult your doctor for clarification.
