What does Q10 do?
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an essential component of mitochondrial energy production, serving as both an antioxidant and an energy-transferring molecule. As such, deficits in CoQ10 will not only impede energy production, but also increase oxidative damage.
Individuals with chronic fatigue regularly show deficiencies in CoQ10 concentrations throughout the body, as do those with conditions in which fatigue is a common symptom, like fibromyalgia, those who have survived heart attacks or heart failure, and multiple sclerosis.
Yet even in healthy adults, including athletes and those who are not active, supplementation with 200–300 mg of CoQ10 per day has largely beneficial effects on exercise performance, oxidative stress, and inflammation. We use 200 mg in ESN Q10 PRO.
We also include black pepper extract, which has been shown to enhance the bioavailability of CoQ10 by about 30%, and selenium, which has some synergistic effects with CoQ10 on longevity.
